Session Read 2026-10-03: 17 of 20 Pairs Higher
This post covers the completed daily session of 2026-10-03 across 20 USD-quoted crypto pairs sourced from Coinbase Exchange daily candles. The session closed before this piece was written; no prices here are live.
The table rendered alongside this piece shows each pair's closing price, its session change (open to close), its 7-day and 30-day changes, and where its close sat inside its own 30-day high-low range — a figure called range position, where 0 % marks the 30-day low and 100 % marks the 30-day high.

What the Session Did
Seventeen of the 20 pairs in the panel closed higher on 2026-10-03, producing a broad-advance regime label. The median session change landed at +2.32 %, meaning the typical pair moved by a meaningful fraction, not a rounding error. Three pairs — DOGE, ADA, and HBAR — closed lower, with HBAR as the weakest at −0.41 %.
OP led the panel at +7.34 %, closing at 75 % of its 30-day range. STX followed at +4.38 %, sitting at 84 % of its range — near the upper end. AVAX (+3.04 %) and SOL (+0.80 %) both closed at 82 % of their respective 30-day ranges, suggesting those pairs spent the session near multi-week highs even as their single-session moves differed substantially. The table shows the full picture; what stands out in aggregate is that a majority of pairs closed in the upper half of their 30-day ranges, consistent with the broad-advance classification.
Dispersion — the gap between the strongest and weakest pair — was 7.75 percentage points on the session. That gap is wide enough that pairs at the top of the leaderboard experienced a qualitatively different session from those at the bottom, even though the overall tide was rising. NEAR's 30-day change of +147.12 % is the most striking figure in the longer-horizon columns, though that figure describes a 30-day window ending on this session, not the session itself.

Regime Context: What Broad-Advance Describes
The broad-advance label is applied when a clear majority of the panel closes higher in the same session. On 2026-10-03 that threshold was met comfortably — 17 of 20 pairs, or 85 % of the panel. The label distinguishes this session from a mixed session (roughly split between gainers and losers), a compressed session (most pairs move but within a narrow band), and a dispersed session (wide spread between winners and losers without a directional majority).
A broad-advance session can coexist with high dispersion, and this one did. The 7.75-percentage-point gap between OP and HBAR is not small. That combination — most pairs up, but the magnitude of gains varying widely — means the session was not a uniform lift. Pairs with high 30-day momentum figures (AVAX at +47.92 % over 30 days, IMX at +46.18 %) also posted solid session gains, while pairs with modest 30-day figures (BTC at +4.28 %, XRP at +2.40 %) produced correspondingly small session moves. Whether that relationship between 30-day and single-session performance is meaningful or coincidental cannot be determined from one session.
Execution Cost in Context
Coinbase Exchange publishes a tiered maker-taker fee schedule; at standard retail tiers, taker fees run in the range of 0.05 % to 0.60 % per side depending on 30-day volume, implying a round-trip cost of roughly 0.10 % to 1.20 % at those tiers before spread and slippage. Against a median session move of +2.32 % on 2026-10-03, a round-trip taker cost at the lower end of that range represents a small fraction of the observed move. At the higher end of the fee range — or for pairs with thin books and wide spreads — the fee becomes a more meaningful share.
The three pairs that closed lower (DOGE at −0.09 %, ADA at −0.26 %, HBAR at −0.41 %) moved by less than the round-trip fee floor in absolute terms for most fee tiers. For any strategy that needed to enter and exit within this session on those pairs, the fee alone would have exceeded the gross move available. The pairs at the top of the session leaderboard — OP at +7.34 %, STX at +4.38 % — offered moves large enough that fees were a smaller proportional drag, but only if the position was sized or held in a way that captured most of that move. Strategies that clear round-trip costs do so through one of three paths: high frequency (many small edges), large size (fixed cost spread across a larger notional), or extended holding period (the move compounds beyond the fee). A single daily candle does not indicate which path applied.
What One Session Does Not Establish
A single session is a sample of one. The broad-advance label describes what happened on 2026-10-03; it carries no predictive weight about the session that follows. Broad-advance sessions have historically been followed by sessions of every regime type. The label is a classification, not a signal.
The range-position figures show where pairs closed inside their own 30-day windows, but a pair sitting at 84 % of its range (STX, ICP) is equally consistent with continuation and with reversal — the measure describes location, not trajectory. Similarly, the 30-day figures in the table describe a window that has already closed. NEAR's +147.12 % over 30 days ending on this session is a description of the past; it does not indicate what the next 30 days will produce.
Dispersion of 7.75 percentage points is wide enough to matter for any strategy that holds the panel equally, but one dispersed session does not establish a persistent dispersion regime. The structural failure of any approach that extrapolates from a single session's character is that regime labels are assigned after the fact, and the conditions that produced the label may already be exhausted by the time the label is read.
The 2026-10-03 session closed with 17 of 20 pairs higher, a median gain of +2.32 %, and a 7.75-percentage-point spread between the top and bottom of the panel — a session that was broadly positive but internally uneven.
