Session Read 2026-08-27: 17 of 20 Pairs Higher
This post covers the completed daily session of 2026-08-27 across 20 USD-quoted crypto pairs sourced from Coinbase Exchange daily candles. The session that follows is closed; the figures below are final.
The session desk classifies each completed session by regime — broad-advance, broad-decline, compressed, dispersed, or mixed — based on breadth, the median move, and dispersion. The label describes what happened; it says nothing about what comes next.

What the Session Did
On 2026-08-27, 17 of the 20 tracked pairs closed higher. The median session change across the universe was +1.28%, and the full table is rendered separately. What follows draws on that data without reciting every row.
SOL was the session's strongest performer at +6.94%, closing at 96% of its own 30-day range — meaning its close sat near the top of the range it had traced over the prior month. BTC added +1.58% and also closed near the upper end of its 30-day range at 95%. ETH gained a modest +0.17%, yet its range position of 93% placed it similarly near a 30-day high. Those three together suggest the session's advance was not evenly distributed across time-frame context: several pairs were already elevated within their own recent ranges before the session began.
At the other end, STX fell -4.50% on the session — the weakest of the 20 — yet its 30-day change stood at +86.37% and its range position was 81%, indicating the single-session loss occurred from a position already well into the upper portion of its recent range. OP shed -1.67% and FET -2.21%; both sat below the median range position of the advancing pairs. Three pairs closed lower in total.
Dispersion — the gap between the strongest and weakest session change — reached 11.44 percentage points (SOL at +6.94% minus STX at -4.50%). That figure is wide relative to a compressed session but not extreme; it reflects a spread of outcomes rather than a uniform drift.

Regime and What Distinguishes It
The session is classified as a broad-advance. The defining characteristic of that label is breadth: 17 of 20 pairs moving higher in the same session. A mixed session would show a more even split between advancers and decliners; a compressed session would show most pairs clustered within a narrow band regardless of direction; a dispersed session would show wide spread without the directional skew. Here, the directional skew was present and the spread was moderate, placing the session clearly in the broad-advance category.
The 7-day and 30-day columns in the table show that the advance on 2026-08-27 did not arrive in isolation for most pairs. SOL's 7-day change was +24.58% and its 30-day change was +48.08%; LINK's 30-day change was +41.36%; XRP's was +36.09%. The session therefore extended moves that had already accumulated over longer windows for the leading names. STX is the outlier in the other direction: a 30-day gain of +86.37% and a 7-day gain of +75.67% preceded its single-session decline of -4.50%, which is consistent with a pair that had already run hard before the session opened.
Cost of Participation in a Session Like This
On Coinbase Exchange, standard maker fees run as low as 0.00% and taker fees begin at 0.60% for the lowest volume tier, declining with higher 30-day volume. A round trip — one taker entry and one taker exit — therefore carries a floor of approximately 1.20% at the base tier before accounting for spread or slippage. Fee schedules are tiered and publicly documented; the figures cited here are from Coinbase's published schedule as of the time of writing.
Against a median session move of +1.28% on 2026-08-27, a round-trip taker cost at the base tier would consume nearly all of the median gain before slippage is considered. Pairs at the top of the session's distribution — SOL at +6.94%, ATOM at +3.53%, LINK at +2.71% — offered session moves wide enough that round-trip taker fees represented a smaller fraction of the available move. Pairs near the median or below it offered little margin between the gross move and the cost floor.
Spread and slippage are not captured in daily candle data. In a broad-advance session with moderate dispersion, liquidity conditions are generally better than in a thin or panic-driven session, but that observation is qualitative and applies to the session that closed, not to any future session.
What One Session Does Not Establish
A single session is a sample of one. The broad-advance classification describes what happened on 2026-08-27; it does not indicate that the following session will share the same character. Regime classifications are backward-looking labels. A session that follows a broad-advance may itself be a broad-advance, a broad-decline, or any other regime — the label carries no predictive content.
Range positions near the top of a 30-day window — BTC at 95%, SOL at 96%, ETH at 93% — describe where prices closed relative to recent history. They do not indicate whether that history will be extended or reversed. A high range position is a description of the past month's distribution, not a statement about the next session's direction.
The dispersion figure of 11.44 percentage points describes the spread of outcomes within this one session. It does not characterise the typical spread, and it does not indicate whether the divergence between leaders and laggards will persist, narrow, or widen. STX's combination of a large 30-day gain and a single-session loss illustrates that short-term and medium-term moves can run in opposite directions within the same session; one data point does not make that a pattern.
The 2026-08-27 session closed with 17 advancers, a median move of +1.28%, and a dispersion of 11.44 percentage points — one day's snapshot in a universe where the prior 30-day changes already varied from -2.40% to +86.37% across the 20 pairs.
