Session Read 2026-10-13: 16 of 20 Pairs Higher
This post covers the completed daily session of 2026-10-13 across 20 USD-quoted crypto pairs sourced from Coinbase Exchange daily candles. The session has closed; no prices here are live.
The table rendered alongside this piece shows each pair's close, its session change, its 7-day and 30-day changes, and where the close sat inside the pair's own 30-day high-low range — a figure called range position, where 0% marks the 30-day low and 100% marks the 30-day high.

What the Session Did
Sixteen of the 20 pairs closed higher on 2026-10-13, producing a broad-advance classification. The median session change across all 20 pairs was +1.30%. Four pairs closed in negative territory, with losses contained: the weakest, NEAR, finished at -0.97%.
The headline figure was OP, which closed the session up +21.04% — a move that placed it at 97% of its own 30-day range, meaning its close sat within 3 percentage points of its 30-day high. STX and APT followed at +5.90% and +5.26% respectively, both also sitting in the upper portions of their 30-day ranges at 89% and 71%. The full table shows the remaining pairs clustered in the low single-digit session changes.
Dispersion — the gap between the strongest and weakest session moves — came in at 22.01 percentage points. That is a wide spread, driven almost entirely by OP's outlier move. Stripping OP aside, the next-strongest pair was STX at +5.90%, which would have produced a far narrower dispersion figure. This asymmetry is visible in the range-position column: most pairs closed between 22% and 74% of their 30-day ranges, while OP sat at 97%.
The 7-day column tells a different story from the session column for many pairs. HBAR, for instance, closed the session up a marginal +0.06% but sits -12.87% over the prior seven days. ADA, SOL, AVAX, and SHIB all posted positive session closes while carrying 7-day losses of between -10% and -12%. NEAR is a notable contrast: its 30-day change of +119.06% is the largest in the set, yet it was the weakest pair on the day at -0.97%.

Regime Description: Broad Advance
A broad-advance label is applied when a clear majority of the tracked pairs close higher in the same session. On 2026-10-13, 16 of 20 pairs met that condition. The label describes what happened; it says nothing about the session that follows.
Broad advance differs from the dispersed label, which would apply when gains and losses are spread widely across the field without a directional tilt. It also differs from compressed, which describes sessions where most pairs move but the moves are small in magnitude. Here, the majority of pairs closed higher and the dispersion figure of 22.01 percentage points was elevated — though that figure was substantially inflated by a single outlier. The mixed label would have applied had the split been closer to even. Broad decline is the mirror of broad advance.
The range-position column adds texture: a broad advance in which most pairs close near the top of their 30-day ranges would look different from one in which most pairs close near the middle or lower end. On this session, the median range position across the 20 pairs sits roughly in the 50–60% zone, suggesting the session's gains lifted most pairs but did not, in aggregate, push them to 30-day extremes — with OP as the clear exception.
Execution Cost in Context
Coinbase Exchange publishes a tiered maker-taker fee schedule. At standard retail volume tiers, taker fees run up to 0.60% per side, producing a round-trip cost of up to 1.20% before spread and slippage. Maker fees are lower, but a resting order is not guaranteed to fill.
Against the median session move of +1.30% on 2026-10-13, a round-trip taker fee of 1.20% would consume nearly all of the median gain before spread is considered. For the majority of pairs that closed between +0.06% and +2.13%, the session move and the round-trip cost occupy the same order of magnitude. A strategy that relies on frequency or short holding periods to clear costs faces a structural challenge in sessions with moves of this size.
OP's +21.04% session move is a different case: at that magnitude, the round-trip fee is a small fraction of the observed move. However, a single session's outlier does not characterise the cost environment for the other 19 pairs, most of which moved far less. Spread and slippage are additional frictions not captured in the fee schedule alone, and they widen during volatile intraday periods — which a daily candle does not isolate.
What One Session Does Not Establish
A single daily session is a sample of one. The broad-advance classification accurately describes what 16 of 20 pairs did on 2026-10-13. It does not establish that the conditions that produced it were stable, repeatable, or likely to persist. Regime labels are taxonomic, not predictive.
The 7-day column illustrates the hazard of reading one session in isolation. Pairs that closed higher on the day — DOGE at +2.59%, ETH at +2.13%, XRP at +1.84% — each carry 7-day losses of between -7% and -10%. A single positive session does not reverse a multi-day trend, and the table does not claim it does.
OP's +21.04% move is the most visible feature of this session, but it is also the most structurally isolated. A move of that size in a single session, placing the pair at 97% of its 30-day range, reflects conditions specific to that pair on that day. It cannot be generalised to the behaviour of the other pairs, and the dispersion figure it produces — 22.01 percentage points — is not representative of the spread between the remaining 19 pairs.
Finally, range position describes where a close sat relative to the past 30 days of that pair's own price history. It is a descriptive normalisation. A range position of 97% means the close was near the top of the recent range; it does not indicate what the range will be in the next 30 days.
The 2026-10-13 session closed with a clear directional tilt, an outlier in OP, and a cost environment in which the fee floor was non-trivial relative to the moves posted by most of the 20 pairs.
